Craigs Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society
Light Up the Lake 2019 - Burlington - 5K Team Event
Sunday December 1, 2019

Please help us make this year's Light Up the Lake 2019 - Burlington in support of Craigs Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society one of the best ever

I'm running/walking in a 5k event on December 1st  in support of Pancreatic Cancer research.  Most people know that pancreatic cancer has terrible survival statistics. Fewer people know that there are two types of pancreatic cancer: adenocarcinoma which is cancer of the exocrine cells in the pancreas; and neuroendocrine which is cancer of the endocrine cells in the pancreas. Neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer makes up somewhere around 5% of pancreatic cancers and tends to be less aggressive. Some people say it's the good kind... I was diagnosed in January 2016 as Stage 4 Neuroendocrine Pancreatic Cancer at age 46.  The doctors tell you that it isn't survivable.  The 5 year survival rate for my diagnosis is about 10-16%.  That statistic doesn't reflect people who have beaten it, it represents how many are still surviving after 5 years.  In my view, that number is far too low.

I am hopeful for new treatments and clinical trials that I personally can benefit from.  This cancer needs more attention and more research to improve outcomes.  Please join me in being hopeful and in supporting this cause.
