Canadian Cancer Society
Winnipeg Police Service - 2017 - WPS Half Marathon
Sunday May 7, 2017
Please help us make this year's Winnipeg Police Service - 2017 in support of Canadian Cancer Society one of the best ever
Each of us wants to make a difference.
In her very short time with us, Joanne Schiewe did this. She may not have been the fastest runner to ever participate in the Winnipeg Police Service Half Marathon but she certainly was one of the bravest.
And she did it with joy and the the goal of helping others.
She loved pushing herself whether she was competing in marathons, an ironman triathlon or dozens of half marathons, mud runs and any other kind of running event. Sometimes, she competed while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy while she fought glioblastoma multiforme (Stage 4 brain cancer.)
Cancer took Joanne from us earlier this year. You can ensure her legacy lives on. Your donation will be doubled by Brain Canada.
Joanne made life better for cancer patients in Manitoba and across Canada whether she was running, speaking with school kids or telling politicians why it was important that they cover the cost of cancer and support drugs.
Her story brought attention to brain cancer and inspired people to give. In two years, she raised $80,000.
Joanne knew she would not benefit from the research she helped fund but she also knew it was key to improving the 25% brain cancer survival rate. Because of people like her and you, five research teams received more than $5 million in funding last year and are working to improve brain cancer survival rates right now.
Joanne touched so many lives and made such a difference on so many levels. Now it’s our chance to do the same.
Help ensure her legacy withstands the test of time so others continue to benefit from Joanne`s courage and commitment to the cancer fight.
