Marathon runner raises funds for children
The Sudbury Star
A former Sudbury resident is back today, running a marathon to keep kids around the world active.
Martin Parnell is running marathon number 153 of the year around the Laurentian University track. His goal is to run 250 marathons, an average of five marathons a week, this year. The point of this athletic feat is to raise funds for Right to Play, an international humanitarian organization that creates sports programs for kids. Parnell aims to raise $250,000 for the organization.

Stanton says he knows his business gives him a bias against the barefoot movement, but that running sneakers are more practical -- and safer -- for the overwhelming majority of runners.
"You're seeing far more people at the races, people of every shape and size are able to run," he said. "I firmly believe, and it's not just because we are in the business of selling running shoes, that more people are able to run today thanks to better technology in running shoes.
