[BTW- did your daugther learn about the "natrual" food colour used to colour strawberry ice creams or other red foods? I just learned about that this week. Hint-- don't eat it if you are a strict vegetarian or keep kosher. Otherwise, don't worry-- it's harmless; but it might surprise you!] |
Oh no, please tell me! I thought it was from beets or something. Or is it the dye made from some kind of insect?

Use butter in corn on the cob season but Non Hyd marg is our normal use item. I agree with moderation and actually use very little. A 1 kg tub of margarine can last a couple months at our house.
In regards to natural vrs non one thing that concerns me is the amount of antibiotics fed to cows and other farmed animals.
We are now searching out sources of pork and chicken which are locally grown without the use of high levels of processed feeds and or antibiotics etc. _________________

Not sure what is better for you. I tend to just skip both and use olive oil.
Use maragine for my toast and i think that is just because i grew up using it.
I always go with the moderation makes almost anything good for you philosophy |

Hmmm....I was 100% convinced margarine was better but not so sure anymore. Bryan is right the key is moderation as neither margarine or butter in huge quantities are good for you. Here's an article in support of butter as the "healthier" fat...

Olive oil is my primary cooking fat, and #2 is Becel olive oil margarine, but I may just give butter another chance...just used sparingly of course. _________________ Jim

I use unsalted butter...sparingly of course. There is no reason to have your food dripping in it.
To me, margerine is one molecule away from plastic and I sure don't want to eat that or anything else manmade. _________________ ****************************************

| We have butter , never margarine at our house. Natural food is better than processed. I don't worry about the cholesterol, because I don't use a lot of it. For example, I quit putting butter on sandwiches back in 1974, and use various mustards instead. Don't forget that the public was told in the 1970's that hydrogenated margarine was better for you than butter. |

| I think a little bit of olive/avocado/flax seed oil is the best and it works if you can't have dairy and nuts. |

I would actually vote neither butter or margarine. Olive oil, coconut oil... Is the way to go!!
But if I had to choose it would be butter. Margarine is a substance that once may have been healthy but has been molecularly changed into a substance our bodies DO NOT recognize. It is something that should never be eaten. This is something I learned in my nutrition course.
If you do eat butter and dairy, that's fine, and your choice, but eat organic!! The reason is pesticides and hormones are concentrated in these products. Never a good thing for active health conscious individuals like yourselves |
