About 2/3rds of the way through my run yesterday I felt my left side IT band. I stopped did some stretching, walked a bit and then tried to run. After a few steps the discomfort was to much to run, so I walked the rest of the way back. I have iced it, used my roller and did a few stretches that I know. It feels better today, but not good enough to run on, I was to do a 10K race today. Any suggestions as to what else might work, or even why it all of a sudden flaired up. I am not running as much as I normally would, as I started swimming.

Not to be a smart *****, but I think you answered your own question in the last sentence. Not running as much...

You are doing all the right things. The only factor missing from this equation which is very effective and crucial for a fast recovery is soft Tissue Therapy and or ART.

You can't just stop running. ITBS is a result of weak hips. I've been using this routine lately and it's helped me out.

Definitely listen to the one who recommends the exercise! After a year of frustration, the exercises I found have been helping to strengthen the supporting muscles and helping me to have the first bit of pain-free time in that year.
