I've seen mostly men in shorts all year round, rain or snow. Are you one of them? Please offer your reason for being so scantly dressed? Don't you find it cold for your legs? I can never expose my legs when it dips below 10 degrees C, and already find to cold in the low teens!

| I run after work and in the winter it's often below 10C in Vancouver (past week or so it's been around 3-5C, maybe a little lower). I run in shorts all year round and the first 10 minutes or so it's a little cold, but after warming up, I'm fine. I haven't tried running in pants, but I've always thought it'd get a little stuffy and sticky running in pants. The main reason for not switching though is that I'm fine with running in shorts when the temperatures above 0C. |

Wow -- I never thought of winter running/walking in shorts. Not for me, though. Too cold... _________________ Louis

| I'll wear shorts to zero degrees. There are temps here in the winter that would make it dangerous to run bare legged. I've never seen a runner here in shorts outside in the winter. |

Your legs rarely get cold. Up to 5 degrees there's no reason to cover up your legs. But no one in Toronto runs year round in shorts. _________________ http://triduel.blogspot.com/

I just stumbled on your site, and reading about shorts I had to write something, too. I am a Swedish man, soon to be 67, and I wear shorts all year round, all the time - not just when running but just going about my everyday business. I just retired as high school teacher, and I have kept wearing shorts every day in my work since the mid 80's or so. I wear trousers only to funerals and, possibly, weddings. And since I'm living in Sweden, I'm used to cold weather, too, maybe not as cold as in Quebeq, but in winter it snows and the temp often goes down to -15 degrees centigrade and below. But I bike and run and goes skiing in shorts, and that's just fine. I am very healthy, and seldom get colds, but it does happen, of course. But a cold doesn't make me wear trousers.
So, why do I write this? To brag? No. I am just so shure that it's all a matter of convention, and that's what I keep telling people here, who keep nagging me, especially women, of course. What I want to say is that it's no big deal wearing shorts the year round. I think many more people should try it. I think people dress to heavily in winter altogether. You see people walking and they are so heavily dressed they almost can't move... |

Being used to this in European soccer (in Canada since 18 months now), I wear shorts as long as it is not below zero. I believe it might be better for your muscles to wear long tights when it drops seriously below zero, especially with the wind we have here at Lake Ontario.
But most important, wear what is comfortable for you. _________________ 08: Mississauga Half (1:51:15) Toronto Half (1:53:46)

| Went through winter in Vancouver in just shorts including rain and snow and everything in between. I tend to overheat very easily and the cold on the legs doesn't bother me. Then again I don't think it's been colder than -7 or -10 this last winter and I would certainly rethink my strategy if I lived anywhere it got really cold... |
